For more than one and a half centuries cricket has been a feature of Wonersh sporting life. It is not certain when cricket was first played in the village but newspaper reports from 1875 onwards provide glimpses of the history of the club. The Sports Ground, where cricket is currently played, was created from marsh land in 1952 as a Second World War Memorial. The first pavilion on the site was constructed in 1959. The new pavilion was built in 1999 to mark the Millennium. Prior to the current ground, cricket was played on various sites in the village including one at the base of Chinthurst Hill.
Wonersh Cricket Club play both league and friendly fixtures and were members of the Village Cricket League for 25 years. The club has now joined the Surrey Downs League but will continue to play long standing Sunday friendly fixtures against local clubs.
New players are always welcome and If you are interested in playing cricket for Wonersh please contact Kieron Chilton our Team Secretary.
